Henry Wilson Hubbell papers, 1855-1911 (bulk 1861-1863).

Papers, 1855-1911 (bulk 1861-1863). Most of the collection consists of letters written to his parents during his service in the Civil War with the 40th New York Regiment. Hubbell served in South Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia, and fought at the Battle of Gettysburg. He describes army life, battles and skirmishes, the local population's response to the army in different areas, the execution of deserters, and conditions in Washington, D.C. in 1861. The collection also contains his school reports, 1855-1857, his will, with a codicil dated 1911, and a few other letters, including one dealing with Hubbell family history, and a 1789 document pertaining to Amos Hubbell.
